Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

North Shore Psychological uses Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in the treatment of problems including anxiety, depression, PTSD and obsessive-compulsive disorder. ACT therapy focuses on mindfulness, acceptance, cognitive diffusion and committed action.  Clients are taught to recognize and understand unwanted feelings and emotions which are out of their control. Using mindfulness, clients learn to connect with reality, grounding themselves.  Through ACT, therapists work with client to identify their personal values and goals. Realizing these values, clients can commit to making efforts to attain these aspirations.   The use of acceptance and commitment therapy allows clients to work towards living a life that is meaningful to them.
